ISLAMIC TOURISM MONTH: A MONTH-LONG EXTRAVAGANZA FEATURING DIVERSE AND ENRICHING ACTIVITIES

PUTRAJAYA, MALAYSIA, 14 AUGUST 2023: Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) is proud to announce the commencement of the Islamic Tourism Month 2023 (ITM 2023), a month-long celebration dedicated to showcasing the nation’s remarkable Muslim-friendly tourism offerings by the travel industry.

ITM 2023 will be held from 21 August till 17 September 2023, a month-long showcase of events, activities, and tourism offerings for the public, tourists, tourism industry players, and entrepreneurs alike. Exclusive offers and promotions will be made available according to the following categories: accommodation, travel packages, spa and wellness, shopping and retail, food and beverages, events and exhibitions, mosque tourism, and seminars and training.

Inviting the entire community to come together, ITM 2023 will spotlight Mosque Open Day, special deals for hotel stays, attractive offers to the vibrant wellbeing and spa scenes, incredible discounts at Malaysia’s dynamic retail outlets, and more.

Among the amazing deals are MyBurgerLab special offers on their Halal burgers, while the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia (IAMM), known for its vast collection of Islamic art, will host exhibitions highlighting the beauty and significance of Islamic artistic traditions throughout the month. In addition, wellness offerings by spas such as Nur Taj Spa and Aora Spa and Wellness enable visitors to experience pampering treatments steeped in Nusantara heritage. Hotels such as Tamu Hotel & Suites and Sunway Putra Hotel and other nationwide will open their doors with exclusive room promotions to the public.

ITM 2023 is also a showcase of ITC’s hotel partners who have received, or are ready to receive, the Muslim-Friendly Tourism and Hospitality Assurance and Recognition (MFAR). MFAR is an extension of MOTAC’s star rating system and is the first Islamic tourism-related recognition in the world that is issued by a government agency.

This year’s Islamic Tourism Month experience is amplified by the use of QR technology, where, with just your mobile phone, you can scan and get instant access to exciting deals and promotions, along with essential information about the events, products and services that ITM 2023 partners have prepared especially for this celebrated month. There will also be a Tik Tok Challenge with exciting prizes to be won.

The launch ceremony of the ITM 2023 will be held on 18 August at Casuarina Convention Centre, Ipoh, Perak. It will be launched by YAB Dato’ Seri Haji Saarani Mohamad, Menteri Besar of Perak Darul Ridzuan with the presence of YB Khairul Firdaus bin Akbar Khan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) along with Tuan Nizran Noordin, Director-General of Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC).

It is a recognition of ITC’s efforts and endeavours in formulating new strategies to meet the new normal of the business environment to ensure business continuity and sustainability, notwithstanding its role to develop and grow the Islamic tourism segment in Malaysia.

These recognitions are an added motivation for ITC to continue to strengthen its efforts in being a prime mover and leading institution to ensure Malaysia is at the forefront of MFTH.
